Mathematical Modelling Advice Service

Beaz, in collaboration with BCAM ‒ Basque Center for Applied Mathematics through its Knowledge Transfer Unit (KTU), launches this service that provides SMEs and start-ups in Bizkaia with advice to identify opportunities for process improvement, design optimisation, advice on new computational tools or even the definition of new services or products as a result of the processing and exploitation of data that these SMEs and start-ups record.

Who is it aimed at?

  • Companies in Bizkaia with an interest in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Companies in Bizkaia with an interest in Fluid dynamic modelling and simulation
  • Companies in Bizkaia with an interest in Mathematical biology

Types of projects:

Three possible types are established based on the specialities to be addressed:

Type 1: Data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI):

● Prediction problems.
● Resource optimisation
● Knowledge-based AI algorithms for health applications, fast and accurate imaging of the earth's subsurface (geothermal energy and underground hydrogen storage), monitoring of the structural health of marine platforms

Type 2: Fluid dynamic modelling and simulation:

● Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFD) for marine energy, hydrogen generation and distribution, combustion (emissions, equipment optimisation, impact of alternative fuels such as biomass and hydrogen). Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFD) for marine energy, hydrogen generation and distribution, combustion (emissions, equipment optimisation, impact of alternative fuels such as biomass and hydrogen)

Type 3: Mathematical biology:

● Forecasting the transmission of infectious diseases, especially vector-borne diseases

Terms of service:

  • • This is a collaborative process between the company and BCAM KTU, which will require an initial analysis of the company's activity, an approach to the problem to be solved drawn up by the company and fluid communication throughout the diagnosis phase.
  • In each case, an action plan will be defined to achieve the objectives according to the specific needs of each company.
  • The Mathematical Modelling Advisory Service has an indicative duration of six months.
  • As a result, a diagnosis document will be delivered summarising the main conclusions of the study and defining future lines of work. Likewise, the developments that have been necessary to carry out the analysis will be delivered, without this entailing additional work for BCAM.
  • • In the event that the complexity of the problem or the type of information provided makes it necessary to extend the project, the company may choose to continue with the advice by financing the service and/or developing a new innovation project, which will be subject to analysis within the programmes published for this purpose by the Department of Economic Promotion.
